Encon Electronics exemplifies commitment to dealer education with Linear seminar

Access control distributor, Encon Electronics held its second seminar of the year with leading manufacturer, Linear Access, at its training facility in Hayward, Calif. May 17th.
This is one of several seminars lined up for 2007. "By utilizing our in-house training facility and by fostering quality manufacturer relationships, we are able to host technical seminars like the Linear product workshop on a regular basis," Encon's general manager, Jeff Harris, said.
Linear product marketing manager, Randy Baker, kicked off the day with an in- depth, technical overview of Linear OSCO operators beginning with their extensive industrial line. He then covered slide gate operators including their commercial, residential and DC models.
"All Linear OSCO operators sit on the same pad and work with the same controls," Baker pointed out. "The only mechanical difference between the commercial and residential operators is the motor and the gear box." After outlining the swing and barrier products, Baker discussed the new Linear operator controls scheduled to launch this Fall.

Chuck Van Sickle, Linear regional sales manager, lead the access control products of the seminar. "Linear offers several residential and commercial telephone entry systems that vary in capacity and accessory availability," Van Sickle said. He then detailed the unique features of each AE model and provided programming tips to simplify installation.
Regional sales manager, Chad Luker, continued the access control segment by introducing the next generation of access products: Linear Plus units and AXNET software.
Previous units utilized a traditional method of programming known as AccessBase 2000. This software required installers to use the same panel and the same computer to edit or program user information. "Linear's latest software, AXNET, addresses this issue," Luker explained.
"AXNET is a web browser method of programming. All data is stored in the panel allowing you to make changes from any computer that has a dial up connection or web browser capability," Luker said. All new Plus models have more capacity, card reader interface and AXNET capability for the same price as our previous models," he added.
Luker then provided hands-on programming instructions from a property manager's perspective. He demonstrated how to input and sort new and existing data and how to update your AXNET system going forward. According to one attendee, "The technical programming portion of the seminar was very informative and useful."
