New Technology in Gate Operator Motors:
Better Performance and Higher Efficiency

Joe Weber, Sales Director

Joe WeberRecently, two exciting new motor technologies were introduced into our market. The characteristics of these new 110VAC motors are substantially different from 110VAC motors we are accustomed to using.

For instance, Link Controls is now using Flux Vector Motor Drive technology in their new Grand Opening series gate operators. This technology may be a mouth full to say, but its primary function is truly remarkable. It allows the motor to run at variable speeds throughout the opening and closing cycles. The gate starts slowly, accelerates through the cycle and then slows down before reaching its full travel. This feature provides exceptionally smooth operation and prolongs the life of both the operator and the gate hardware.

Leading access control manufacturers such as FAAC, Elite and DoorKing are now using another new motor technology in their 110VAC electromechanical ram style operators. With this new motor technology, you can adjust the torque on the control board instead of the hydraulic adjustment you would make on a typical hydraulic ram. The control board delivers 50, 60, 70 or whatever voltage is required, up to the full 110VAC. The benefit is a smooth and efficient operating gate without excessive force being exerted on the gate or anything that might come in contact with the gate during its operation.

That’s it for now, keep putting up those gate signs and keep an open mind. There are many more changes on the way and some are very good!
